Authors note- I read this book over the summer and when we were given this character developing piece to write I knew this was the perfect book because of all the changes.
At the beginning Zach’s
Lie, Zach is just a average ordinary kid who has normal friends and goes to
school every day. But the one thing that makes him different is that three men
take Zach and his family hostage and tell them they are not allowed to tell
anyone about what happened. This completely changes Zach because before he was
a social kid and now he a shy kid that doesn’t want to accidental slip and tell
the secret. Zach and his family are then forced to go to the Witness Protection
Program and relocate to a random location with no contacts and the bare
minimal. When Zach is in the WPP( witness protection program) Caitlin(his new
best friend) shows him the true meaning of friends and life. Throughout the entire
book of Zach’s Lie many characters change many times, which helps Zach
find the true meaning of Life and true friendship.
When I read the book
Zach Lie’s Zach kind of reminded me of Melinda from Speak .Zach was shy at the beginning but the Caitlin
changed him dramatically and made him a more social. Just like in the book Speak
Melinda was always shy but Rachel
changed him in such a dramatic way that he became more social. Another
connection I made with Melinda and Zach is that they both experienced things
not many teenagers experience like Zach was held hostage, and Melinda was Raped
in a high school party.
Throughout the book Zach
is on a roller coaster of changes. At the beginning of the book Zach’s life is
affected in huge way when the three men take his family hostage. This affects
Zach because he becomes scared and he never wanted to talked to anybody. As the book continues
to develop Zach mans up and talks to someone and becomes friends with a girl
called Caitlin. Caitlin changed Zach’s life because she made Zach less shy and
more confident .
Despite the dramatic
changes Zach has to go through throughout the book it really helps him
throughout the book. During all of the changes Zach went through he learns one
of the most important lesson of life, what friends and life really means.
