Gender Blender
Image you are jumping on a trampoline. You are having such a good time when another person decides to accompany you. She was in one of your classes but you didn’t’ know her that well. Bouncing away you both tumbled at the same time and bump heads. Both of you pass out and when you woke up you were in different bodies. The author Blake Nelson did a great job making this book funny, painting a picture in your mind, and making it relate to kids.
This book can relate to almost everybody’s childhood. Who hasn’t took a shopping cart for a ride or eaten something disgusting to get money. In the chapter “Emma goes for a ride” she gets shoved in a shopping cart and pushed down the steepest hill in their town just for a laugh. The kids in the book are all like this, wild and wanting to have something to amusement them .Even if at the end of the day there grounded.
Besides making this relatable the book is very funny. In one part of the book a Tom (the main character) let out bird from its cage while there were was a dog in the room. The dog ran after the birds and created chaos. He did this all just to get out of piano lesions. In another part of the book he was about to get attacked by 8th graders. So he scaled the tree house, unbuckled, and started peeing on them.
Ever thought Blake made this book funny he also paints a picture in your mind. Throughout the book he made you feel like you were one of the people there. This is one out of the many painting he captivated in my mind. “The basement was definitely the place to be. It was warm and cozy. The lights were dimmed and the smell of buttered popcorn filled the air”
At the end the book came out as a master piece. The comedy and the reality are some of the highlights that Blake Nelson put into the novel Gender Blender.
