Author's note: This piece is my social studies piece. Getting this finished I thought that this would be perfect for my compare and contrast. This is on a book, April morning and the movie The Patriot.
How would you feel if one of your family member die when
they had their whole life ahead of them? How would you feel if they got shot by
people controlling your life? In the film The Patriot by Roland Emmerich
and the book April Morning by Howard Fast, families were torn apart
because family member fighting for freedom where shot and killed. This is just
of the ways these stories are so similar yet, so different.
One similarity is that both stories the war torn the main
characters families apart. In April Morning Adam and his father are shot
in a battle with the redcoats. Being luck Adam survived the bullet but sadly,
his father didn’t. Leaving his family emotionally distressed. In the film The
Patriot Benjamin, the father of six and newly married, is now left with
close to nothing thanks to a general of the red coats. The red coats killed his
two of his sons, his sons wife, and his new wife.
another similarity is how they were sucked into the war. In April
Morning the British just marched into their town and started a war. They
were dragged into it because they were minute men. In The Patriot the one son, Gabriel was being selfish and
wanted to do whatever he wanted. Because of this he gets capture and his
younger brother die in the process of trying to save him. His dad then took it
personal and needed revenge.
One difference is that the fathers in each stories were
completely difference. In the book The Patriot In father was a war hero.
He killed many men and was one of the best while in April Morning the
father wasn’t really experienced. He was a minute man and this might have cost
him his life.
Overall these to stories are both similar and different at
the same time. Even if both of the stories weren’t in the same time period, I
would still say that they are more similar than different.
